A Little Bit of Everything for everybody PART 1

Well here`s the next installment of Making Handmade Children`s Blankets..

Because I have such a Variety of Fabrics and Designs I`m going to concentrate on specific categories as the weeks go on.

This week I`ll show you some of the Blankets I can make for the Boys in your life.

Most little Boys in the age group of 4-8 have seen the Disney Movie "Cars" with the animated Stars Lightning McQueen and Tow Mater.

I have several fabrics to choose from with Cars as the theme.

This one is a Cotton Fabric and is a Tan background with a Road Map Design on the Background with the Streets and Towns featured in the Movie.

As you can see, Lightning McQueen and Tow Mater are also featured on this Fabric.

I then will edge the Blanket with a Red Satin Blanket Binding which really brightens it up and compliments the Red that is Lightning.

Then I have a Matchbox Rescue Vehicle Blanket with Fire Trucks, Hydrants and Dalmation Dogs on it.

This is also made with a Cotton fabric..

And who can resist Sleepy Puppy Dogs ?

This Blanket is made using Snuggly Warm Flannel Fabric. Blues Clues look a like Puppies sleeping on a Fluffy White Cloud against a Navy Blue Background.
This one can be edged with either Blue or White Blanket Binding

This Bouncing Tigger Blanket is made using Cotton Fabric

And the Buzz Lightyear one is a Snuggly Flannel

And last but not least I have Care Bears. I`ve made Several different ones with Yellow and Dark Blue Backgrounds.

These are Cotton Fabrics and both were edged with Yellow Blanket Bindings

Travels in New Brunswick Canada and Maine

On Tuesday the 9th of June my husband Donald and I left CT, bound for New Brunswick CANADA.

On our way there we stopped off at a Hometown style Restaraunt on RTE 9 in Maine in a little town named simply Township 22

Good food and a small Hometown atmosphere where several "locals" where also there for the daily chit chat and noontime meal

After a long 8 hour drive, we arrived at the US/Canada International Bridge Border and passed into New Brunswick.

We traveled another 2.5 hours along CANADA 1 through the Villages of St George, St Andrew, St John and a few others till we reached the Town of Moncton where we stopped for the night.

The next day we traveled through Fundy Bay National Park along Rte. 114 to Alma and the Fundy Bay area. Fundy Bay is known to have the Highest Tides and the largest amount of water flowing in and out of the bay.

Each day 100 billion tons of seawater flows in and out of the Bay of Fundy during one tide cycle more than the combined flow of the world’s freshwater rivers!

Visitors can see two extraordinary high and low tides every 24 hours. The time between a high tide and a low tide is, on average, six hours and 13 minutes. As such, you can reasonably expect to see at least one high and one low tide during daylight hours. Tide times move ahead approximately one hour each day, and tide times vary slightly for different locations around the Bay. Check with the community you are planning to visit for accurate high and low tide times.

The difference between low tide and high tide can be as great as 54 ft. 6 in. (16.6 meters) !!

Wednesday afternoon we headed south again along US 1 back towards the US and Bar Harbor Maine was our destination

After a good nights sleep at a Holiday Inn in Bar Harbor Mount Desert Island area we wandered over to Acadia National Park where we drove to the 1530 ft. summit of Cadillac Mountain.

WHAT A VIEW !

I swore I could see Canada from up there.. Actually you can`t see that far but on a Very Clear day you can see Mt Katahdin

After walking around up at the summit and learning the history of the mount

ain we headed back down the winding road to the bottom to go see the Famous " Thunderhole"

Mother Nature out did herself with this Wonder I`ll tell you !

Thousands of gallons of water rushing in to this little cove area that has been hallowed out from the tide waters makes a Thundering "boom" when the water hits the cove. As the tide gets higher the

"boom" gets louder.

Seeing this for the first time when I was 10 years old I couldn`t wait to see and "hear it" again.

This was My husband `s first trip here and he was as infactuated with it as I was.

VIDEO clip below

After spending several hours enjoying the show and the beautiful Atlantic Ocean we had to head back toward home.

Back on U.S. Rt 1 , we headed for

Bucksport Maine another place with a History and memories for me.

In a Cemmetary in the center of Town is the Col Jonathon Buck Memorial. The legend has it, that Col. Buck a highly decorated Revolutionary Soldier had condemned a local woman for witchcraft and had her burned at the stake. Before being consumed by the fire she supposedly put a curse on Col Buck stating that her presence would be known upon his tombstone. As the story goes, before she was totally consumed, her leg fell away from her body and her son recovered it from the flames and disappeared into the woods with it. He was never seen again from that day on.

60 years later when Col. Buck died and his tombstone was erected an outline of a leg and foot appeared on the bottom half of the Granite Monument and also an outline of a heart turned sideways at the top of the Monument.

Whether you believe the legend or not, it is a Fascinating site and intriguing story.

After viewing the Bucksport Legend, it was time to get back on the road and head home.

I hope you`ve enjoyed my Blog and will come back to read about our next travel log :>)

Boogity Boogity Let`s Go Racing Boys !

All righty now ! If you couldn`t tell by the Title of this blog, I am a Nascar Fan..

Been one for about 43 years now.

I was kinda born into racing because my Uncle worked for a man who many years ago raced at the Local Track Waterford Speedbowl here in CT.

His name was Ed Yerrington and he drove in the Modified Division with the Phillips # 66 car.

Ed owned a Phillips 66 Gas Station in Preston CT and my Uncle Artie was the mechanic there.

Uncle Artie also helped work on the race car and was part of Ed`s Pit Crew

When I was around 10 or 11 I started going to the track with my Aunt Joan and Ed`s wife Shirley to watch Ed race

When Ed decided he was going to give up racing Uncle Artie built his own car and took over the
# 66

Now every Saturday night I was up in the grandstands screaming for my Uncle to win !

And now my Uncles Sons and Grandson and Granddaughter are carrying on the "family tradition" by racing at Waterford as well.. I attend as often as I can to cheer my Family on..

Years later I discovered " The Big Boys" in Nascar and would sit in front of the TV every Sunday, and some races were on Saturday nights, cheering on my Favorite Driver who at the time was Rusty Wallace.
Rusty was driving the MGD #2 in what was known as the Winston Cup Series

A few years earlier, before I really got into Nascar, Rusty had won his first and unfortunately ONLY Winston Cup Championship driving the Kodiak # 89 Car

Now he was driving for Roger Penske Motorsports and would continue to drive for him until 2005 when Rusty announced he would retire from Racing at the age of 49

So who was I going to "root" for now that Rusty is retiring was a question I was asked and answered almost immediately..

Kurt Busch of course ! Kurt was hired to be behind the wheel of the NOW Miller Lite # 2 Car

So every Sunday ( and some Sat. nights) from Feb - Nov I can be found sitting in front of the TV "cranking it up" with my husband and 43 of my Nascar Buddies..

A few years ago Winston announced that after 50 years they would No Longer be the Primary Sponsor for the Nascar Series.

Nextel took over for a few years and now it`s known as The Sprint Cup Series.

I attended my first Nascar Race at Loudon New Hampshire back in July of 1997 and have attended every race there since. There are 2 races held in NH each season. The first ( used to be in July) is now at the end of June and the 2nd is in September usually the 2nd weekend.

I`ve also attended races at Pocono Speedway, Talladega Super Speedway and Daytona for the 500 which is considered by most Nascar Fans to be the Superbowl of Nascar !

My hope for the future is to attend a race at Bristol Motor Speedway and Miami Homestead for the Final Race of the Season to see the Championship determined.

I enjoy watching the Nationwide Series also which is like Minor League in Baseball and definitely like the Truck Series which is sponsored by Camping World now..

All in all I LOVE RACING of any kind !

What I do. Making Handmade Blankets and Pillows for Children

Ok so here is Part II of How it Started..

Once the idea to make my Blankets was formed I had to start shopping for the supplies.

So most of my Fabrics in the beginning were purchased from other ebay sellers. There are several that I purchase from regularly that have Beautiful Childrens fabrics in multiple yardage which is what I need to keep my stock refreshed.

I use mainly 100% Cotton Fabrics but I also have many Designs in the "Snuggle"or "Cozy" Flannel Fabrics all of which are Machine Washable and Low Heat Dryable

And my philosophy is to help the other ebay sellers make money while helping myself make money.

The Batting on the other hand was a different story. I need such a large amount there were no ebay sellers that I could buy from.. So I headed back to my Favorite local Fabric store to purchase and put in a standing order for a 45 Yard Long Roll.

It`s a Good thing I have a Van :>)

These Rolls are 52" wide and around 2 ft in diameter..

Next came the Thread in all different colors that I needed.

I purchased what I could budget wise to get me started and then watched for a Sale Online and next ordered more than 100 Spools of High Quality Polyester Thread in every possible color.

And finally where could I find Large Quantity of Packages of the Satin Blanket binding I use for the edging ?

Back to ebay of Course ! A wonderful seller who happens to also live in CT carries this in her store and I`ve been ordering 15-20 packages at a time from her to keep me in supply.

Now this is what I use to make the Blankets :

And these pictures show how the finished product looks :

Even though I specialize in Children`s Fabrics, I have many for the Bigger Kids (Teens ) and Adults as Well.

The sizes I can make are Toddler Bed /Crib Size which are 36" x 44" and this size also makes a Nice Lap Blanket for folks who are Wheelchair Bound for whatever reason.

Many of my Blankets are Purchased for the Little ones who are in DayCare and need a Nap/Rest Time Blankie with them

And some are purchased to use as a Sofa Back throw to use as TV snuggle Blanket or just to add to the Decor..

Many of the All Over Prints I have can be made for Twin Beds as well which are 44" x 72"

All of them are Backed with a Matching Solid Color Fabric to match the Front Pattern

And the Blanket is edged with a Matching Color Satin Blanket Binding as well.
