Blankies for The Grown Ups
( Well my previous Posts have been centered around Childrens ( boys & girls) Blankets that I make.
But Children aren`t the only ones that may need a Blankie !
I myself, have one across the back of my recliner chair. On those chilly evenings I`ll pull it down and lean back in my recliner to watch TV. And many nights I`ve dozed off all snuggled in. !
This is MY BLANKIE -- I`ve been an ELVIS Fan since I was 10 years old when my Favorite Aunt Joan R.I.P. ( who called herself ELVIS`s # 1 FAN )
This is a Cotton fabric Blanket. The back is done in Solid Black and has Black Satin Blanket Binding around the edges. It measures 36" x 44" and is just the right size to curl up with in my chair. It`s nice and Warm and Snuggly with Hypo Allergenic Loft Batting in between the layers of fabric.
I also have this Elvis Fabric available . This one would look GREAT either Edged with MINT Green or Black.
And for Nascar Fans I have NASCAR Checked Flag , Dale Jr., Jeff Gordon, and Jimmy Johnson Fabrics
The NASCAR , Dale Jr, and Jimmy Johnson are Flannel Fabrics while Jeff Gordon is a Cotton Fabric.
All my Blankets have a inner layer of Hypo Allergenic Loft Batting and all are edged with Matching Satin Blanket Bindings

Travels in New Brunswick Canada and Maine
On Tuesday the 9th of June my husband Donald and I left CT, bound for New Brunswick CANADA.
On our way there we stopped off at a Hometown style Restaraunt on RTE 9 in Maine in a little town named simply Township 22
Good food and a small Hometown atmosphere where several "locals" where also there for the daily chit chat and noontime meal
After a long 8 hour drive, we arrived at the US/Canada International Bridge Border and passed into New Brunswick.
We traveled another 2.5 hours along CANADA 1 through the Villages of St George, St Andrew, St John and a few others till we reached the Town of Moncton where we stopped for the night.
The next day we traveled through Fundy Bay National Park along Rte. 114 to Alma and the Fundy Bay area. Fundy Bay is known to have the Highest Tides and the largest amount of water flowing in and out of the bay.
Each day 100 billion tons of seawater flows in and out of the Bay of Fundy during one tide cycle more than the combined flow of the world’s freshwater rivers!
Visitors can see two extraordinary high and low tides every 24 hours. The time between a high tide and a low tide is, on average, six hours and 13 minutes. As such, you can reasonably expect to see at least one high and one low tide during daylight hours. Tide times move ahead approximately one hour each day, and tide times vary slightly for different locations around the Bay. Check with the community you are planning to visit for accurate high and low tide times.
The difference between low tide and high tide can be as great as 54 ft. 6 in. (16.6 meters) !!
Wednesday afternoon we headed south again along US 1 back towards the US and Bar Harbor Maine was our destination
After a good nights sleep at a Holiday Inn in Bar Harbor Mount Desert Island area we wandered over to Acadia National Park where we drove to the 1530 ft. summit of Cadillac Mountain.
I swore I could see Canada from up there.. Actually you can`t see that far but on a Very Clear day you can see Mt Katahdin
After walking around up at the summit and learning the history of the mount
ain we headed back down the winding road to the bottom to go see the Famous " Thunderhole"
Mother Nature out did herself with this Wonder I`ll tell you !
Thousands of gallons of water rushing in to this little cove area that has been hallowed out from the tide waters makes a Thundering "boom" when the water hits the cove. As the tide gets higher the
"boom" gets louder.
Seeing this for the first time when I was 10 years old I couldn`t wait to see and "hear it" again.
This was My husband `s first trip here and he was as infactuated with it as I was.
VIDEO clip below
After spending several hours enjoying the show and the beautiful Atlantic Ocean we had to head back toward home.
In a Cemmetary in the center of Town is the Col Jonathon Buck Memorial. The legend has it, that Col. Buck a highly decorated Revolutionary Soldier had condemned a local woman for witchcraft and had her burned at the stake. Before being consumed by the fire she supposedly put a curse on Col Buck stating that her presence would be known upon his tombstone. As the story goes, before she was totally consumed, her leg fell away from her body and her son recovered it from the flames and disappeared into the woods with it. He was never seen again from that day on.
60 years later when Col. Buck died and his tombstone was erected an outline of a leg and foot appeared on the bottom half of the Granite Monument and also an outline of a heart turned sideways at the top of the Monument.
Whether you believe the legend or not, it is a Fascinating site and intriguing story.
After viewing the Bucksport Legend, it was time to get back on the road and head home.
I hope you`ve enjoyed my Blog and will come back to read about our next travel log :>)

Boogity Boogity Let`s Go Racing Boys !
All righty now ! If you couldn`t tell by the Title of this blog, I am a Nascar Fan..
Been one for about 43 years now.
I was kinda born into racing because my Uncle worked for a man who many years ago raced at the Local Track Waterford Speedbowl here in CT.
His name was Ed Yerrington and he drove in the Modified Division with the Phillips # 66 car.
Ed owned a Phillips 66 Gas Station in Preston CT and my Uncle Artie was the mechanic there.
Uncle Artie also helped work on the race car and was part of Ed`s Pit Crew
When I was around 10 or 11 I started going to the track with my Aunt Joan and Ed`s wife Shirley to watch Ed race
When Ed decided he was going to give up racing Uncle Artie built his own car and took over the
# 66
Now every Saturday night I was up in the grandstands screaming for my Uncle to win !
And now my Uncles Sons and Grandson and Granddaughter are carrying on the "family tradition" by racing at Waterford as well.. I attend as often as I can to cheer my Family on..
Years later I discovered " The Big Boys" in Nascar and would sit in front of the TV every Sunday, and some races were on Saturday nights, cheering on my Favorite Driver who at the time was Rusty Wallace.
Rusty was driving the MGD #2 in what was known as the Winston Cup Series
A few years earlier, before I really got into Nascar, Rusty had won his first and unfortunately ONLY Winston Cup Championship driving the Kodiak # 89 Car
Now he was driving for Roger Penske Motorsports and would continue to drive for him until 2005 when Rusty announced he would retire from Racing at the age of 49
So who was I going to "root" for now that Rusty is retiring was a question I was asked and answered almost immediately..
Kurt Busch of course ! Kurt was hired to be behind the wheel of the NOW Miller Lite # 2 Car
So every Sunday ( and some Sat. nights) from Feb - Nov I can be found sitting in front of the TV "cranking it up" with my husband and 43 of my Nascar Buddies..
A few years ago Winston announced that after 50 years they would No Longer be the Primary Sponsor for the Nascar Series.
Nextel took over for a few years and now it`s known as The Sprint Cup Series.
I attended my first Nascar Race at Loudon New Hampshire back in July of 1997 and have attended every race there since. There are 2 races held in NH each season. The first ( used to be in July) is now at the end of June and the 2nd is in September usually the 2nd weekend.
I`ve also attended races at Pocono Speedway, Talladega Super Speedway and Daytona for the 500 which is considered by most Nascar Fans to be the Superbowl of Nascar !
My hope for the future is to attend a race at Bristol Motor Speedway and Miami Homestead for the Final Race of the Season to see the Championship determined.
I enjoy watching the Nationwide Series also which is like Minor League in Baseball and definitely like the Truck Series which is sponsored by Camping World now..
All in all I LOVE RACING of any kind !

What I do. Making Handmade Blankets and Pillows for Children
Ok so here is Part II of How it Started..
Once the idea to make my Blankets was formed I had to start shopping for the supplies.
So most of my Fabrics in the beginning were purchased from other ebay sellers. There are several that I purchase from regularly that have Beautiful Childrens fabrics in multiple yardage which is what I need to keep my stock refreshed.
I use mainly 100% Cotton Fabrics but I also have many Designs in the "Snuggle"or "Cozy" Flannel Fabrics all of which are Machine Washable and Low Heat Dryable
And my philosophy is to help the other ebay sellers make money while helping myself make money.
The Batting on the other hand was a different story. I need such a large amount there were no ebay sellers that I could buy from.. So I headed back to my Favorite local Fabric store to purchase and put in a standing order for a 45 Yard Long Roll.
It`s a Good thing I have a Van :>)
These Rolls are 52" wide and around 2 ft in diameter..
Next came the Thread in all different colors that I needed.
I purchased what I could budget wise to get me started and then watched for a Sale Online and next ordered more than 100 Spools of High Quality Polyester Thread in every possible color.
And finally where could I find Large Quantity of Packages of the Satin Blanket binding I use for the edging ?
Back to ebay of Course ! A wonderful seller who happens to also live in CT carries this in her store and I`ve been ordering 15-20 packages at a time from her to keep me in supply.
Now this is what I use to make the Blankets :
And these pictures show how the finished product looks :
Even though I specialize in Children`s Fabrics, I have many for the Bigger Kids (Teens ) and Adults as Well.
The sizes I can make are Toddler Bed /Crib Size which are 36" x 44" and this size also makes a Nice Lap Blanket for folks who are Wheelchair Bound for whatever reason.
Many of my Blankets are Purchased for the Little ones who are in DayCare and need a Nap/Rest Time Blankie with them
And some are purchased to use as a Sofa Back throw to use as TV snuggle Blanket or just to add to the Decor..
Many of the All Over Prints I have can be made for Twin Beds as well which are 44" x 72"
All of them are Backed with a Matching Solid Color Fabric to match the Front Pattern
And the Blanket is edged with a Matching Color Satin Blanket Binding as well.

How It All Got Started.........Making Handmade Children`s Blankets
In 2000 when our first Grandchildren were about 5, 5 and 4 , I was pulling ideas together to create something for them for an Easter Gift , other than a bunch of Cavity Creating Candy.
I decided I was going to make them Decorative Pillows for their beds here at our house for their sleep overs.
So I headed over to ebay, where I was already a registered user and seller, to find some Fabric that I knew they would like.
Since we are a Disney Fanatic Family and everyone has their favorite Characters, I found Princess Pillow Panels for the Oldest Girl, Tinkerbell for the younger girl, and BUZZ Lightyear for the oldest grandson. (Since then we have another Grandson too)
Once I received my fabric I headed to Wal Mart to buy the Stuffing for them.
The Pillows were a Huge success on Easter Morning ! Much more than the Basket full of Candy and Marshmallow Peeps and Jelly Beans that they each had.
They immediately headed upstairs to their rooms and proceeded to find the proper places for their new Head Rests !
The ordinary pillows were tossed to the side and the NEW pillows had found their place of Honor on each of their beds.
So the Daughter In Law married to the youngest son says to me " Mom why don`t you make some more of these and sell them on ebay "
So off to the computer I go to search for more Pillow Panels that would appeal to the children out there in Cyber Land..
Low and behold after sewing up and stuffing about 10 more I started listing them and within a few days I actually sold a couple.
Now I come up with the idea of making Toddler Bed size blankets to match the pillows.
So with a little help from my friends at the Fabric store with a sewing lesson on how to make a 3 Layer Blanket, I venture into the "Blanket Business "
Since we ( my husband and I ) already had a idea of opening a Craft Store for his woodworking projects (another blog coming ) we applied for a Ct Sales Tax # and I was off and running with
KDMORE CRAFTS..........
And since I also sell lots of odds and ends I find at Yard Sales and things around the house that are no longer neccessary, ( and not nailed down, as my Husband likes to say LOL ) like clothes that the kids have outgrown but not worn out, my ebay store became known as
KDMORE - CRAFTS-AND-MORE.
Through the last 6 years since making the first pillows and then the blankets I have also started signing up for the Craft Shows that are held in my area around the Christmas Holiday Season and have found that fun but also quite challenging..
You need to have a large inventory ready to do the Craft Shows so you will have a little different something for everybody and plenty of it.. Especially the Disney Movies
Because of limited storage space ( these pillows and blankets take up a LOT of space ) On ebay I always listed a picture of the fabric and explained how I would "make" and ship the blanket or Pillows within a 3 day time span.
I now had 9 Plastic totes filled with all kinds of different Fabrics that I have carefully selected to make the blankets and pillows with, piled in the corner of the spare room of the house which is dubbed " the EBAY ROOM"
And a 45 Yard Roll of Batting which is what goes between the layers of fabric, standing up in the other corner
With the Craft Shows I needed to start sewing weeks ahead of time so I would have plenty of inventory.
Now how to store all these before the shows ?????????
Rubbermaid to the resue !
Lots of Plastic Totes with the snap on covers, and there are 4 rows piled 3 high stored in the Utility Trailor that we bought to transport everything to the shows.
And in between the shows if I have sold a blanket or pillows on ebay that`s been already made up, I just go pull it from the totes and I`m able to ship it that much faster to make Happy Customers !!!
Then I can replace it at a later date and start all over again.
Last year I have also expanded my Internet Online Selling by opening a Bonanzle.com store and a store front on Etsy.com
You can find me on bonanzle by searching the sellers list for kdmoretti
On ebay my store is http://stores.ebay.com/KDMORE-CRAFTS-AND-MORE?refid=store
And on etsy my store is http://etsy.com/your_shop.php
On Bonanzle I can be found here: http://bonanzle.com/booths/kdmoretti
I hope you have enjoyed reading this and will follow me for additional blogs in the near future.
